News Reports
News reports are Capacity Planning or SQL Insights reports sent by email. Each report highlights notable developments across your database, host, and Exadata fleets, including highs, lows, major changes, and inventory changes.
Prerequisites
Before creating a news report, ensure that the required policies are added:allow group <group name> to inspect ons-topic in compartment <compartment-name>
allow service operations-insights to use ons-topic in tenancyFor more information on adding policies using Policy Advisor, see Create and Manage Policies With Policy Advisor.
If deprecated policies are detected, Policy Advisor displays a banner prompting you to update the policies to the new CRISP format. Click Update prerequisite policies to update them. For more information on deprecated policies, see Service Principal Policy Removal.
Create a News Reports
To create a news report:
- Open the navigation menu, click Observability & Management, and then click Ops Insights.
- In the left pane, click Administration, and then click News reports.
- Click Create news reports.
- Select the type of news report, Capacity Planning or SQL Insights.
- For Capacity Planning: Select the Hosts, Databases, and Exadata systems resource types to include in the report. If prerequisite policies are not enabled, click Policies to add them automatically.
- For SQL Insights, select the SQL insight report that you want to receive:
- Fleet analysis: Shows significant SQL insights from across your fleet.
- Plan changes: Summarizes top SQL plan changes by impact on database time.
- Top databases: Summarizes top databases by volume of SQL insights.
- Performance degradation: Shows a summary of SQL performance degradation insights.
Note
For SQL Insights reports, create one news report for each SQL insight report that you want to receive.
- Enter a Name for the report. Spaces are not allowed.
- Enter a Description.
- Select the Compartment from which the report runs. Only enabled resources from this compartment are shown. To include content regarding resources from child compartments in the report, select Include child compartments.
- Select the Report frequency. If you select Weekly, select the Day of the week to receive the report.
Note
Report frequency is not displayed for Capacity Planning reports because these reports are weekly by default. For Capacity Planning reports, select only the day of the week to receive the report. - Under Notifications service, select a Notifications service topic to be used; or create a new topic. If you are creating a new topic, this will take you to the Notification service user interface. For information, see Creating a Topic.
Note
Topics can be reused across compartments, but a topic can be used in only one report within a compartment. News reports support email addresses only. - A confirmation email is sent whenever a new address is added to the topic. Confirm the email by clicking the link in the confirmation email to start receiving the news report.
- Once all previous steps are completed, click Create news report.
Administer News Reports
Under Ops Insights Administration, click News reports to administer news reports. The News reports page lists reports by report name, compartment, news report status, description, frequency, topic OCID, state, and last updated date. Use Search and Filter to filter news reports by criteria such as news report status, frequency, and report type.
The State column indicates whether a report is running. Active indicates that the report is running. Needs attention indicates that the report is not running because of errors. For reports that need attention, open the report and verify that the Notifications service components are current and valid.
The News report status column indicates whether a report is enabled or disabled. Use the Actions menu to disable or re-enable a news report, or to move the report to another compartment.
If you edit a Notifications service topic and no data is displayed, ensure that the selected compartment is the same compartment where the topic was created.
News Reports Sections
A news report includes the following sections for the selected week:
- Summary: Provides a brief summary of new utilization highs, big utilization changes, and inventory changes across your fleet of databases, hosts, and Exadata systems.
- Big changes: Lists resources with an average utilization change exceeding plus or minus 25% over the prior week.
- Inventory changes: Lists resources enabled or disabled in Ops Insights during the previous week.
Unsubscribing from News Reports
To unsubscribe from the news reports, click the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of the report email or confirmation email. This removes the email address from the topic.
If a distribution list recipient unsubscribes, the entire distribution list is removed. Ensure that only relevant email addresses are added to distribution lists.
