Enable Databases for the Service
Once a database is enabled, you'll be able to use Ops Insights Capacity Planning to optimize performance and resource usage.
- Once enabled the data may take up to 24 hours to appear.
- Ops Insights for MySQL HeatWave is deprecated effective January 29, 2026, and is no longer available for enablement on MySQL HeatWave Database Systems. For more information, see the Service Change Announcement.
If you want to view more granular data (7 days or less), you can select a smaller time range.
Monitoring Credentials
Before adding a database, ensure that you have proper monitoring credentials set up. For instructions on how to set up External and Cloud Oracle Database monitoring credentials (Virtual Machine, Bare Metal, and Exadata), see OCI : Creating the Oracle Database Monitoring Credentials for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Database Management, Ops Insights and Stack Monitoring (Article ID KB57458).
To create an Autonomous AI Database monitoring credential, see OCI : Creating the Autonomous AI Database Monitoring Credentials for Oracle Cloud Ops Insights (Article ID KB95891).
For monitoring credentials for MySQL HeatWave Databases Systems and external MySQL Databases Systems, see Register an External MySQL DB System.
Enable Databases for Ops Insights
To enable one or more databases for Ops Insights, log in to OCI and do the following:
- Open the navigation menu, click Observability & Management, and then click Ops Insights.
- In the left pane, click Administration, and then click Database fleet.
The Database fleet administration page displays.
Note
If deprecated policy statements are detected, Policy Advisor will display a banner requiring a policy update to the new CRISP format, to update click Update prerequisites polices. For information on deprecated policies, see Service Principal Policy Removal. - Click Add Databases.
- Click on the desired Telemetry. Available telemetries are:
- Cloud Infrastructure: Autonomous AI Databases running in OCI, and at Exadata Cloud@Customer, Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure, Virtual Machine, and Bare Metal.
- OCI Management Agent: Databases monitored by the OCI Management Agent service, this includes External Oracle databases and External MySQL database systems. You'll need to select the destination compartment as shown in the next step. In addition, you'll also need to select an external connector.
For external MySQL database systems, a connector is chosen by default, if you wish to override select the connector to use from the multi-select table.
- Enterprise Manager: Databases monitored and managed via Enterprise Manager. You'll need to select the EM Bridge. In addition, you'll also need to select the destination compartment as shown in the next step.
- Select the Compartment that contains the database that you want to enable for Ops Insights.
Note
For Enterprise Manager databases, select the EM bridge compartment and the EM bridge. For Management Agent databases, you must also select the external connector after selecting the database to enable.
For Exadata Cloud@Customer Autonomous AI Databases full features are checked by default. The basic feature set is not available for these databases.
Optionally, if there are many databases and you know which ones you want to enable, you can filter the returned results based on database type.
- Select a database to enable.
Note
Autonomous AI Databases, Enterprise Manager databases, MySQL HeatWave Database Systems, and external MySQL Database System allow you to multi-select databases for enablement. The multi-select feature is not available for databases monitored by Management Agents, Virtual Machine, or Bare Metal. Alternatively, for Exadata, you can bulk enable the entire the entire Exadata system. - Click Add databases. The enable request is submitted for processing. Depending on amount of data that needs to be uploaded, it may take a few minutes for the process to complete. Data may take up to 24 hours to appear in Ops Insights for newly enabled database.
Available Actions
After you add a database to Ops Insights, click the Actions menu for the database to perform actions such as enabling or disabling the database, adding tags, or moving the database to a different compartment. Only Enterprise Manager databases can be moved.
Autonomous AI Databases, databases monitored by Management Agents, Virtual Machine, Bare Metal, and Exadata Cloud Service follow the DBaaS resource compartment.
