Using ADDM Spotlight
To access and view ADDM Spotlight, open the navigation menu, click Observability & Management, and then click Ops Insights. In the left pane, click Database Insights, and then click ADDM Spotlight.
ADDM Spotlight Screen
Only Ops Insights-enabled databases with ADDM Spotlight findings will be listed. If the databases are not enabled or have no findings they will not be listed.
On the ADDM Spotlight page, use the Compartment and Time range fields to select a compartment and set the time range. Select Include child compartments to include resources from child compartments.
The ADDM Spotlight page lists databases with the following information:
- Database name
- Type
- Number of findings
- Max overall impact (%)
- Most frequent category
Review ADDM Findings for a Specific Database
To review a specific database's findings and recommendations first select the Compartment you want to view and click on the Database name for the database you wish to review. This will load a new screen with information for only the selected database, three informational tabs are displayed Findings, Recommendations, and Database parameters. In a regular ADDM Spotlight findings review, start at the Findings tab, review the information presented, then move on to the Recommendations tab and finally the Database parameters tab. This allows you to observe the findings and see how much of an impact the issues found are having on your database, before moving onto recommendations to see how much of an improvement can be achieved by implementing the suggested recommendations. Lastly, Database Parameters allow you to analyze what parameters have changed historically from your database configuration that could be impacting performance.- Findings: On the Findings tab, data is presented in two formats under Summary: a graphical timeline and a table. The timeline summary is shared by the Findings and Recommendations tabs, allowing you to compare ADDM findings with the recommendations to resolve them.
Use the Category applied filter to search for and select one or more finding categories, such as Application, Configuration, and CPU. Click Apply filter to update the findings shown in the timeline and table. Use the Date applied filter to view findings for a specific time period.
The findings table lists the findings observed for the database. Information is presented by Category, Finding name, Description, Frequency, Avg active sessions, Max impact, Overall impact, and Recommendations. Click a value in the Recommendations column to view the corresponding recommendations. Frequency represents how many times the finding occurred per task during the selected time range. Impact represents the overall improvement that can be obtained by implementing the recommendation. To correlate configuration parameter change events with the timing of ADDM findings, select Include event annotations. Event annotations are added to the ADDM Spotlight charts.
- Recommendations: On the Recommendations tab, ADDM Spotlight lists recommendations to address database performance findings. The Summary section includes a timeline graph and a recommendations table. The timeline summary is shared by the Findings and Recommendations tabs, allowing you to compare ADDM findings with the recommendations to resolve them.
Use the Category applied filter to select one or more recommendation categories, such as Database parameters or SQL. You can also search by SQL ID in the Search by SQL ID field to find specific recommendations. Use the Date applied filter to view findings for a specific time period.
The Summary graph shows the number of recommendations for the selected time range. The recommendations table includes SQL ID, Recommendation, Rationale, Frequency, Avg active sessions, Max benefit, and Overall benefit.
To correlate configuration parameter change events with the timing of ADDM recommendations, select Include event annotations.
To run SQL Tuning Advisor for a recommendation, click the Actions menu for the row, and then select Run SQL Tuning Advisor. This opens the SQL Tuning Advisor section in Database Management. If Database Management features are not enabled for the selected database, you are redirected to the Database Management UI wizard to enable the required features.
- Database parameters: On the Database parameters tab, you can view database parameters by impact, value, change status, or recommendations. Use the applied filter to show parameters with high impact, non-default values, changes, or recommendations.
The table includes parameter details such as parameter name, begin value, end value, whether the value is the default, and whether the value changed during the selected time range. Use the Search by parameter name or value field to find a parameter by name or value.
To edit a database parameter, click the Actions menu for the row, and then select Edit database parameters. This opens the Edit database parameters section in Database Management. If Database Management features are not enabled for the selected database, you are redirected to the Database Management UI wizard to enable the required features.
